Materials

  • Where do you get your gemstones?

We ethically source our gemstones, which is hard to explain as there is no industry standard. It is up to the individual sellers to be transparent about their origin.

At Sacred Meadow, we purchase our gemstones from trusted suppliers who have close relationships with the people who work in family-owned mines.

  • What materials do you use?

At the moment we use copper, brass, silver and gold plating. The specifications of the item will always have the finish listed.

  • Are there benefits to wearing copper jewellery?

Quite a few, copper is a conductive metal which also works for the metaphysical qualities of the gemstones used along with it. Copper on its own also assists in energy production, assists in wound healing, boosts the immune system, helps absorb iron, assists in opening the flow of blocked energy in the body.

  • Can my skin turn green?

This doesn't happen to everyone, but skin turning green is a natural thing when copper reacts to the body's acidity. Overtime your skin will return to normal, it won't stain your skin.

Wearing copper jewellery is a good indicator of acidic levels in your body and dehydration.

Absolutely, feel free to send us a message and describe what properties you are looking for. We can have a chat about what stones could be beneficial.

Jewellery aftercare

Prolonging the lifespan of your jewellery

  • Prolonging the lifespan of your jewellery

It's recommended not to shower, exercise, sleep or expose your jewellery to chemicals.

Avoid prolonged or intense exposure to direct sunlight or water, some gemstones are sensitive to sun and lose luster, other gemstones can absorb liquids and disintegrate over time.

Handmade jewellery can be delicate, if handled roughly gemstones can break or chip.

Place your jewellery somewhere safe when you're not wearing it, this will prevent tarnishing.

And don't store your jewellery in the bathroom, the humidity in there isn't suitable for jewellery.

Keep it away from other metals, and keep it in an airtight container to stop dust settling.

  • Cleaning your jewellery

Brass, copper and silver will naturally darken over time due to oxidation.

To restore the metals to their luster, rub the item with a polishing cloth or polishing pad.

If you don't have these on hand, try using a buffing nail file without grit.

Alternatively, you can use fine steel wool but be careful not to scratch the gemstone. Make sure afterwards you remove any little steel wool hairs afterwards, they will rust.

Rust spots on your jewellery are due to exposure with steel. Brass, copper and silver do not rust.

  • Re-Wrap

If after a while your jewellery becomes damaged and the gemstone is safe and intact, it can be re-wrapped for a lower fee + the cost of shipping. Contact me for more information

Energetic aftercare for your gemstones

  • This section applies to everyone interested in the healing benefits and metaphysical properties of the jewellery. It is not a necessity for those who just want to wear the jewellery as the pretty little things they are.

  • Why would you cleanse gemstones?

Gemstones often travel long distances, from source to seller, before a purchase is made. Each transition exposes the stone to energies that may be misaligned with your own.

And when used for healing, these stones are said to absorb or redirect the negativity you’re working to release.

Crystals that are sold through Sacred Meadow are smoke cleansed with homegrown herb bundles prior to being made into jewellery, to remove any unwanted energies and charging the jewellery before use.

After receiving and using your jewellery for a while, the gemstone might lose its charge, meaning it won't be as effective anymore.

  • How do you cleanse gemstones?

There are several ways to cleansing gemstones, however I'll share the ways I find to be most effective and safe for your jewellery.

A lot of cleansing methods involve water, but this is very dependant on the stone and I don't recommend too much water exposure to your jewellery.

  • Sound cleansing

Sound healing allows a single pitch or tone to wash over an area, bringing it into the same vibration as the tone.

This can be accomplished using chanting, singing bowls, a tuning fork, or even a nice bell. It doesn’t matter what key the sound is, so long as the sound emitted is loud enough for the vibration to fully encompass the stone.

  • Using other crystals

Large quartz clusters, amethyst geodes, and selenite slabs can be great tools for clearing smaller stones.

Place your stone directly inside or on top of any of these stones. It’s thought that the larger stone’s vibrations remove the inharmonious energies found in the resting stone.

Selenite is a personal favourite of mine because it has the unique quality of never having to charge itself.

Using smaller crystals is also a good option, just fill up a bowl of your choice with plenty of small crystals and set your gemstone to cleanse on top of it.

The smaller crystals should also occasionally be cleansed, usually these are harder stones and make it safe to water cleanse them by holding them under running water for a bit.
